Thanks to a generous donation from Charlotte’s Wings, a non‐profit organization that provides books donations to children in hospital and hospice care, the Pediatrics department at SJH&MC has more than 50 books for families to use a resource while in the hospital with their child.
With the funding of the Charlotte’s Wings organization, the Parent Resource Library became a reality. The library includes books that help parents with the growth and development of their child, their child’s hospitalization and/or their children’s diagnosis. The library will include topics ranging from cancer, relaxation, divorce, special needs, trauma, feelings/anxiety, self‐discovery, grief, hospital stay/doctor office visits, inspiration books, diagnosis‐based topics and other miscellaneous topics. Parents will be able to borrow books during their child’s visit to the hospital.
Charlotte’s Wings also provides other support to SJH&MC’s Pediatric department. They:
- Donate many books that are given out to the children on the Pediatric unit throughout the year
- Supply teaching materials used to help children understand their disease process.
- Developed a packet in conjunction with the Pediatric Bereavement group to give to families when a child dies – books for comfort and support.
Thanks to this wonderful organization for their support. More information can be found at http://www.charlottes‐wings.com/.
